Lifestyle Programme
Physical inactivity is becoming more common in the Australian population
and contributes significantly to a number of chronic medical conditions.
The most recent surveys suggest that 54% of Australians lead a sedentary
lifestyle.
The significance of physical inactivity in a variety of chronic diseases
is shown in the following Table.

Source: Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) 2002. Chronic
diseases and associated risk factors in Australia, 2001. Canberra: AIHW.
Following over twenty years of success in the physical conditioning of
cardiac patients a similar weekly programme of three half hour sessions
of interval training can now be used in improving your quality of life.
That physical inactivity is a significant contributor to both death and
illness in Australians is shown in the following Table (taken from a presentation
by Professor A. Lopez, RACP Meeting, Cairns, 2006) in which the top twelve
Australian lifestyle problems are ranked for death and decreased quality
and quantity of life (QALY).

Physical Inactivity is ranked highly in both causes of death and reduced
quality of life in both men and women. Clearly a more active lifestyle
will provide significant benefits to all irrespective of age, sex, physical
condition or in the obese. The Nu-Life Rejuvenation Programme has shown
significant benefits in all and only takes up ninety minutes of your time
a week.
In America it is estimated that 200,000 deaths per year are directly
attributable to physical inactivity – causes include coronary artery
disease, colon cancer, and type-2 diabetes.
Previous data suggested that in order to obtain some of the important
changes in your body including cholesterol and other lipids it was necessary
to undertake relatively long sessions of strenuous activity for several
months.
However by undertaking a Nu-Life Rejuvenation Programme highly significant
benefits can be obtained after only eighteen thirty-minute sessions over
six weeks.
What results can you expect from increasing physical activity?
- Improved cardiac function- Reduced resting and exercise heart rate
Improved cardiac output- stroke volume
Increase in muscle mass of ventricle
Reduced Peripheral resistance
Improved oxygen and nutrient delivery to tissues
- Reduced Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressure
- Improves Glycaemia control and insulin sensitivity
- In high risk groups helps prevent development of Type 2 Diabetes
- Reduces risk of heart attack, cardiac events and death
- Lowers all cause mortality including risk of stroke, provides modest
protection against breast cancer, helps immune system.
Whilst moderate levels of physical activity appear to confer a significant
health benefit, greater amounts of physical activity afford greater protection.
In the Nu-Life Rejuvenation Programmes exercise levels > 85% are used
ensuring greater benefits.
Obviously individual body characteristics and histories of cardiac disease,
high blood pressure and the like may affect your level of exercise in
general the particular form of exercise utilised in the Nu-Life Programme
can be undertaken by the majority only the supervision required varies.
If you are concerned please discuss your possible participation with
your local medical practitioner prior to proceeding further. Indeed if
you have a history of, or are at risk of, cardiac disease your local practitioner
or cardiologists approval is mandatory before enrolment.
